You Never Write, You Never Call…

Has it really been nearly a month? Wowsa!! I’d like to say I have a lot to tell you, but I really don’t. It’s not like nothing has been happening, quite the contrary, in fact. It’s just that very little of it is really bloggable. How’s about a few headlines? OK? Cool. (oh and no pictures. I’m far too lazy to do all that. Next post, I promise.)

Honey I Shrunk the To-Do List!! — I didn’t stick to the plan as well as I wanted to but I did enough to get my to-do list under control. The house is mostly clean, my business paperwork is mostly caught up, and we are starting to consider adding exercise to our lives. We’ve already started trying to cut back on portions and resist most desserts (damn Girl Scout Cookies taunting me). There’s a lot of room for improvement in my sticking to the plan, but overall, I feel good about it so far and my stress level has lowered measurably. I feel good enough about what I’ve gotten done, that I rarely feel guilty about spending the evening knitting. And speaking of knitting…

Holy Finished Objects, Batman!!! — The pink sox are done. I actually wore them for a couple of days. I couldn’t wait to weave in the ends, block and photograph them. Uh-unh, no way. They went onto my feet as they came off the needles. I love them. So perfectly comfortable and so pink and cheery!!! One teensy little complaint, it seems like the yarn kind of pills up with wear. On the plus side, the gaps around the heel don’t show up much at all and certainly don’t affect the comfort. And the Boy’s Weasley Sweater is DONE!!! As in seamed, ends woven in and blocked. I just finished it about a half an hour ago (10:00 pm CST). I can’t wait to try it on him tomorrow. I already know it’ll be way to big for him, but that’s what I planned. It’ll be perfect for him next winter. It turned out so good and I love, love, love it!! This project taught me so many things and gave me a ton of confidance to take on more sweater projects. Turns out I don’t mind doing Mattress Stitch seaming. A lot of people kind of groan over doing the finishing, but I gotta tell you pulling those stitches tight and watching the two pieces come together….and the line is invisible…WOW! It’s so cool!! I get a little thrill every time I look at it!! The duplicate stitch Z on the front turned out great and I didn’t mind that part either. I’ve always loved needlework, so it was kinda fun for me. All in all, I loved this pattern and can see myself repeating it. Maybe matching sweaters for the Rock Star and me? Next up are socks in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport. I’m going to try the Zig-Zag sockulater at the Knitting Fiend to make a Jaywalker like sock. None of my stash of sock yarn matches the Jaywalker pattern’s gauge and I don’t really know how to modify it. I’ll be trying to do it 2 socks on 2 circs, top down. Wish me luck.

We Didn’t Win the Lottery. — More’s the pity. I could really use the money as I consider what my next project will be. I want to knit Clapotis from Knitty. I looked into the Lorna’s Laces Lion and Lamb 50/50 wool and silk, but holy crapoly that stuff is expensive. I can hardly justify $85 for a shawl/scarf I may not even wear. I’m not really a shawl wearer…I just think its a cool looking pattern and might wear a shawl more if I had one I really loved. I’m looking at another yarn now that’ll be half that price. It’s from Brooks Farm and I’m torn between the Muted Varsity, Mission Red, Black, and Intense. I wish I could feel it before I buy it. I should try to find out if anyone around here has it. I’ve seen a picture of Clapotis done with this yarn and it is quite beautiful.

The Wave of the FuturePodcasts. I’m crazy for Podcasts. I listen on my iRiver while I’m driving, walking, knitting, cleaning and any other time I can. I listen to several knitting podcasts. I listen to a history podcast. I listen to Dawn and Drew and Quirky Nomads, who defy categorization. I love being able to listen to what I want, when I want. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to radio.

Like Sands Through the Hour Glass — the Boy turn 18 months old on 3/10. So much to say about that, I’ll leave it for another post. I turn 42 or 43 (can’t ever remember my age) on 3/30.

Fucking Weather — There’s only so much knee deep snow I can slog through before I stop thinking, “Oh, how pretty!?”. Tomorrow I’ll take pictures of my world in white. Yesterday and today, I just couldn’t stand it. Too many dogs to walk, cats to visit and driving for the winter wonderland we are living in to be all that wonderful.

Guess that’s about it for now. I’ll post pics soon.
